Special Sale Festival in Mandalay                                               (27 November, 2008)

Special sale festival will be held in famous Zegyo Market in Mandalay from 29th November to 3rd December for 5 days. The opening hour is from 9 am to 10 pm.
Variety of commodities including textile fabrics, cosmetic, latest fashioned ready-made clothes, food stuffs, herbal medicine, pharmaceutical, garments for ladies and gents, computer accessories, products from Mandalay Factory Zone, Agriculture and Animal husbandry implements and Kitchen utensils are available at 300 temporary boots.
Stage-show, Model & Fashion Show, Dancer Show, Zat Pwe, A-Nyeint Pwe, competition of Chinlone and Magic show will be included daily by free of charge.

Falling trees funded for Nargis’s victims                                   (25 November, 2008)


One carving shop has opened at the people square on Pyay Road in Yangon. Carvings are being carved out from the trees which had falling by storm Nargis. The benefits of the shop are going to donate Nargis’s victims. Varieties of carvings are dancing ladies, flying birds, animals at work and garden furniture.
 

Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock) Pagoda Festival

It is closed to Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda Festival. Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock) Pagoda, the famous legendary Pagoda on the Golden Rock about 160 km from Yangon and 11 km of hiking from the base camp at Kyaikhto.
The Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda Festival is a special festival of lights celebration. It will be held on the evening of 31st December and locals offer the lighting of 9000 candles and 9000 flowers to the Buddha. On the next morning, rice, sweets and other snacks are offered. The platform and passage of the pagoda are usually filled with visitors from all over the country.

Orange Season in Myanmar

We would like to give information about one of Myanmar seasonal fruit.
You can see oranges abundantly everywhere in Myanmar since this is the peak yielding period of the orange season. Orange has grown elsewhere in Southern Shan State around Kalaw and Aung Ban area. Oranges are harvested from October to March.
There can be seen other seasonal fruits together with oranges, such as sweet citrons, avocados. Oranges are also abundantly available in fruit market with reasonable price.
 

Cultural Festival in Bagan

We would like to inform that the cultural festival in Bagan sponsored by Myanmar Marketing Committee will be held on 28th to 30th November at Sunset Garden from 3 pm to 9 pm daily.
The festival featuring is cultural performances and competitions for Unique Bagan Lacquer ware, tug of war, Chinlon and Ox cart. Shows are Martial arts, Traditional dances and spectacular fireworks. At the night bazaar, Myanmar food, handicrafts and souvenirs are available.

Kahtein Procession


 

 

Since the Buddhists are keen in donation the whole year has donation to the Buddhist monks.
Among that Kathina donation is the most important and famous religious ceremony in Theravada Buddhism. In Theravada Buddhism, monks are not allowed to hold the money by their own. Then all the requisites for them have to receive from the public donation. In this Kathina donation all the utensils for the whole year requirement are included. As the offertories including in cash and kinds, cash are together in one group.
For the Kathina offering ceremony offertories in kinds are beautifully packed and hang on a tree – like racks which are called Padathapin.
The offertories likes Robes, alm-bowls, umbrellas, slippers, soaps, towels and other utensils are hang on the tree – like racks called Padathapin with nice decoration as fruits bearing on the trees.
Cash donations are also hang on the Padathabin like fruits and leaves on the tree. These notes are decorated by folding in the shape of birds, flowers, fish, stars, etc.
The Padathabins are placed at the public area for a week in order the donors to hang their desired offertories on the Padathabin.
Long processions of devotees carry all the beautiful Padathabins are sent to the relevant monasteries. The processions are invariably accompanied by music and comedian dancers together with the donors.
 

Tazaungdaing Festival in Maha Htunt Htoo Kanthar Pagoda, Pyin Oo Lwin

Pyin Oo Lwin situated 67 km east of Mandalay at the altitude of 1070 m. There has Tazungdaing Festival and Hot-Air Balloon Festival at Maha Htunt Htoo Kanthar Pagoda as a fourth time festival starting from 7th November to 12th November, 2008.
There is also hot balloons competition on the day and night occasions. Day balloons are in the form of animals and the night balloons would sting along fireworks and fire sticks which are set off mid-air fireworks.
Stage-show and other entertainment such as robe weaving competition, photo competition, cane ball match and others competitions will be included.

Taunggyi Hot-Air Balloon Festival

Hot- Air Balloon Festival is very popular event of Taunggyi, the capital of the Southern Shan State. Hot-Air Balloon Festival is the most significant one and the annual Tazaungdine Lighting Festival. It will be celebrated starting from 5th November to 12th November in this year.
There has hot balloons competition on the day and night occasions. The daytime competitions are for balloons made in animals or bird shapes. At night fire balloons are decorated with strings of lanterns or designs made of lights. The hot air is generated by burning rags under the opening. Balloons are judged for size, style, design and the time they remain aloft.
