Religious Activity in Buddhist Lent Period

Since Myanmar is Theravada Buddhist country, Myanmars do
meritorious deeds especially during Buddhist Lent Period
from 6th July to 3rd October’09.
At the beginning of Lent period, you can observe
ceremonial robe donation especially for above mentioned
Lent period.
Another religious event is food offering to the monks at
countrywide measure. Each and every ward in towns and
villages have associations for offering to the monks
living in their wards. The members of association
collect cash donation from door to door for the weekly
offering. Monks are invited for alms round at dawn on
Sunday. For the offering alms food, association members
are to prepare and cook since Saturday night. Then
devotees gather at the association to offer food when
the monks arrived. |
Taungpyone Nats or Spirit Festival

Taungpyone
Nat or Spirit Festival is a popular festival usually
held during the month of August at Taungpyone village
near Mandalay will be fall from 31.07.09 to 05.08.09 in
this year. According to tradition, Nats are spirits that
can bring luck and prosperity to the worshippers and can
also bring danger to those who do not respect them. The
Myanmars worship them vigorously for fulfill their
wishes, protect from ill-fate and danger, and bring good
luck, prosperity and progress. Devotees from all over
Myanmar, comes to this special festival and offer their
donations and enjoy themselves with the blessings of the
spirits every year.

Alms Offering Ceremonies in 14 Pagodas of Sagaing

Sagaing
has plenty of stupas scattered over the Sagaing hills.
As Sagaing is a religious center, regularly 14 pagodas
have alms offering ceremonies at dawn during Lent Period
every year. In this year it will fall from full moon day
of Waso (6th July, 2009) to full moon day of Thadingyut
(3rd October, 2009).
These are four pagodas in Sagaing and ten pagodas on
Sagaing Hill. Devotees from all townships of Mandalay
comes these ceremonies in every full moon day of Lent
Period.
The ceremonies are one after another in seniority as
