Mann Shwesat Taw Pagoda Festival

The Shwesat Taw Pagoda trustee and the people from that region celebrate the pagoda festival on February 11th to March 10th. On that day, you can see not only the local pilgrims but also the pilgrims from the foreign countries.
At the compound of that festival, there are 500 lodging houses and 600 stalls. The cost of the lodging house is from K. 7000 to K. 12000. In one house, 5 to 8 persons can stay. At stalls, you can get the Myanmar traditional goods such as Myanmar Thanatkhar and the cotton blankets of that region.
At present Mann Shwesat Taw is not well known among tourists. Since Shwesat Taw as a tourist site one can observe the ways of life in that festival period it is worth while to drop in on the way to Bagan.

200th Anniversary of Mingun Bell

In 1808, the King Bodawpaya built the Mingun Bell which weigh 90 tons (55, 555 viss). We noted as “Min Phyu Hman Hman Pyaw” in Burmese as a code. Currently, it is going to be 200 years old in 2008 and the second biggest bell in the world.
The biggest bell on the world is in Moscow and it is tree times bigger than the Mingun Bell. Mingun Bell is claimed to be the largest hung, un-cracked bell in the world. Actually there was world biggest bell in Myanmar which was built by King Damasadi but destroyed by Portuguese.
Mingun Bell is one of the ancient bell and many foreigners come to see it almost every year.

Kyaik Khauk Pagoda Festival in Thanlyin

Thanlyin is a small town, just 30 minutes drive from Yangon across the Thanlyin Bridge which built over Yangon River. Ancient Kyauk Khauk Pagoda is famous in Thanlyin because of Buddha’s hair relics had enshrined many years ago.
Kyaik Khauk Pagoda festival celebrates every year in 14th to 22nd February. The festival is teeming with music troops, traditional dance performances, puppet show held in temporary theatres, vendors of miscellaneous item and food stalls. Local pilgrims visit to pay homage and enjoy the festival.

Lacquer-ware of Bagan

It has been started since around the King Bagan’s age. 70 percent of population in Bagan work focus on the lacquer business. There are many lacquer-ware factories in Bagan of different sizes.
In lacquer making, the main thing is latex. It takes for 8 months seasoning to get good quality. Most of the customers are the hotel, the restaurant, the embassy offices and economic business focus on the lacquer.
One lacquer-ware worker earns K. 1,000~ K. 3,000 per day depends on the skill.
