Shittaung Pagoda Festival in Rakhine State (29 April, 2009)

We would like to inform religious festival at Shittaung Pagoda in Rakhine State. Shittaung Pagoda, temples of the 80,000 Buddha is a fascinating place full of small images, scenes in sculpture of Buddhist stories with the kings and queens, countries and common people portrayed in their mediaeval costumes and head-dresses, all frozen in stone throughout the ages. Shittaung Pagoda’s festival will be held from 6th to 8th May in this year 2009. Festival performances include competitions of boat, Rakhine men boxing and wrestling. At the night bazaar, Myanmar food, variety of commodities including textile fabrics, cosmetic, latest fashioned ready-made clothes, etc.

Good News for Old Stamps Collectors (28 April, 2009)

According to a weekly journal, we would like to give good news for stamp collectors. Collections of Old stamps consisting Mandalay (100) years Anniversary issued in 1959, United Nations Organizations and ASIAN have been shown to public in glass frame at General Post Office, Yangon. Many spectators including foreigners visit the show and observe interestingly. Due to limited space stamps are being show in alternately.

Best Archipelago in Myanmar (24 April, 2009)

Myeik (Mergui) Archipelago, located in southernmost point of Myanmar (Burma), comprises of over 800 gorgeous islands. Kasone Festival, Ritual of Pouring Water on the Bodhi Tree (21 April, 09)

After a very joyous Thingyan Festival, come again one of Myanmar’s charming tradition, Kasone festival is the one of ritual of pouring water to Bodhi tree (Bo Tree / Ficus Religiosa)This ritual commemorates the date 2500 years ago when the Buddha gained enlightenment while meditating under a Bodhi tree.
The festival takes place on the full moon day of Kasone; also known as the Buddha’s day will be fall on 8th May in this year 2009. On the full moon day of Kasone, long processions of devotees carry small pots of water on their heads or shoulders and pour water on the Bodhi trees grown in the vicinity of famous pagodas. The water pouring is a necessity as Kasone is the hottest and driest month of the year. Food is also served after the ceremony occasionally. People perform the others charitable acts on this day. So don’t miss out this rare opportunity while you are visiting in Myanmar on May!

Myanmar New Year Day (10 April, 09)

It is a time for people to visit the elders and pay obeisance by perform hair-washing in the traditional manner with shampoo beans and bark and manicure. Many will make New Year resolutions, generally in the mending of ways and doing meritorious deeds for their future fortune and prosperity. Releasing fish, birds, cow is another time-honored tradition on this day.

Exciting Period Of The Year In Myanmar (8 April, 2009)

Myanmar New Year Day is 17th of April 2009. Before the Burmese New Year, it is the tradition to celebrate Water Festival for four days from 13th April to 16th April. People are preparing to enjoy New Year Water Festival excitingly because Water Festival is the most enjoyable occasion in a year. You can see many pandals for playing water are being constructing at the streets permitted by the authority. Stores and Super Marts promote discount sales elsewhere in Myanmar. People are enjoying by buying jeans, shorts, sun glasses, towels to celebrate Water Festival. Children also serious to buy plastic water guns, compress hand pipe and buckets for throwing water for enjoying the Water Festival. Unique Religious Ceremony of Myanmar in April (6 April, 2009)

This is time of Novitiation Ceremony in Myanmar and you can see the ceremonial cavalcades lead to Shwedagone Pagoda then it is so crowed with ceremonies in Shwedagon Pagoda. Novitiation Ceremony is the unique characteristic in Myanmar and the boys are compulsory to enter the Buddhist order as Novice for a week or more.
In Myanmar Buddhist tradition, it is compulsory that every boys over eight years old to twenty have to enter the Buddhist Order for a week or more as a novice and over twenty they have to enter the Order again as Ordained Monk. At least enter twice as Novice and sometimes even more.
Novitiation is the obligation for every parent, rich or poor, since it is believe to be a great meritorious deed which could prevent them to be at the evil realm.
