Mann Shwe Settaw Pagoda Festival(23 January, 2009)

Mann Shwe Settaw Pagoda Festival is one of the most significant Pagoda Festival in Upper Myanmar. It is located 300 miles from Yangon and 36 miles from Magwe. The festival is celebrated for the fact that around 600 BCE the Buddha set a print of his left foot on each side of the Mone creek and it is these we pay homage today. The pagoda is on the bank of the famous Ayeyarwaddy River and pagoda festival will be held starting from 30th January for 11 days in this year 2009.
The opening ceremony of the festival is on 30th January and can get the opportunity to see and pay homage to the original golden footprint of the Buddha. Of course, the original footprint is too precious to be on display – it is concealed under the golden footprint created with the donations of those who come to pay homage to this holy place and each year it grows in size. There were hundreds of newly built bamboo huts in the half-dry Mone creek to stay for pilgrimage and shops including textile fabrics, cosmetic, latest fashioned ready-made clothes, food stuffs, herbal medicine, garments for ladies and gents, local products, Agriculture and Animal husbandry implements and Kitchen utensils are available. People from the entire nation pay Pilgrimage to the Pagoda during the festival days.
