Bago
Bago is situated only 80 km north of Yangon, on the way to Mount Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock or Balancing Rock) and Mandalay. It was an ancient city founded in 573 AD, by the name of Hanthawady.

Kanbawzathadi Palace
Kanbawzathadi Palace, founded by King Bayinnaung from 1553 to 1599 and covered 204 acres. About 64 acres have been excavated.

Shawmawdaw Pagoda
Shawmawdaw Pagoda, the huge Golden stupa, 114m high is the prominent land mark of the town, is said to be over 1000 years old and originally built by the Mon to a height of 23m to enshrine two hairs of Buddha. Hinthagon Pagoda, located on the hilltop behind Shawmawdaw. On that summit was built a roofed plat form and has good view over Bago. According to legend this was the one point rising from the sea when the mythological bird (the Hintha).

Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha
Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha measuring 55m long and 16m high colossal reclining Buddha Image represents relaxing mode as the eyes are wide open and the feet lie slightly splayed. Originally built of brick and stucco in 994 AD by the Mon King Migadepa II.

Kyaik Pun Buddha Images, built in 1476 by King Dhammazedi. Four huge sitting Buddhas placed back to back around a huge square pillar. 30m high four Buddha images represent the four Buddhas already enlightened in this world. |
Kha Khat Wain Monastery
Kha Khat Wain Monastery, is a largest in lower Burma.
More than one thousand monks study Buddha scriptures.
After lunch is a good time to see the monks at the huge
study hall.

Three Lion Cheroot Factory
Three Lion Cheroot Factory, smoking cheroot is famous in
all over Myanmar. Cheroot is made from organic matters
Tha-Nat-Phat (obtain from a tree specially grown in Shan
State) instead of paper. Ingredients are the mixture of
inert wood and black tobacco. Since the tobacco content
is much less than the cigarette cheroot is less hazard.

Shwegu Lay Pagoda
Shwegu Lay Pagoda, situated a little beyond the Mahazedi
and has a dark tunnel around the circumference of the
cylindrical superstructure. Inside are 64 seated Buddha
figures. |
